Whiskey Sour Recipe

What's sweet, smoky, and just the right amount of tart? Well, if you said a Whiskey Sour then you have come to the right place. Featuring a delicious balance of bold and citrus flavors, a Whiskey Sour is the perfect cocktail for relaxing on the back patio under a setting sun.

A Few Key Ingredients:  

  • Bourbon: This classic favorite includes subtle notes of oak and vanilla for a smooth finish.  
  • Simple Syrup: We’ve included how to make your own in the recipe below.  
  • Lemon Juice: Freshly squeezed is a must.  

The key to this cocktail is getting just the right balance of sweet {simple syrup}, tart {lemon}, and warm {whiskey}. The flavors combine to create a smoky-sweet finish that immediately takes you to a warm and cozy place.  
 
The angostura bitter garnish is optional, but we recommend it as it intensifies the flavors of the other ingredients. Full of herbs, fruits and spices, it's the difference between a good cocktail and a great one. It works for both alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks and you can find it easily on your grocery or liquor store shelf. 

As you get prepped to craft your Whiskey Sour cocktail, we recommend making your own simple syrup ahead of time so it has a chance to cool before mixing. Not only is it simple to make...but you can easily store your remaining syrup in the fridge for later use.  

Once you have your syrup made, lemons squeezed, and bourbon selected, it’s time to create your delicious Whiskey Sour cocktails.  

 

Serve it in Style  

Choose a classic glass to serve this classic cocktail. 
We suggest it the “Old Fashioned” way - a short tumbler usually made of cut glass.

 Whiskey Sour recipe ingredients

 

The Whiskey Sour 


Serves 1 
 
Ingredients:  

2 ounces bourbon 

¾ ounce lemon juice, only freshly squeezed 

½ ounce simple syrup 

ice 
 
Simple Syrup 

½ cup granulated sugar 

½ cup water 
 
Garnish 

3 - 4 drops Angostura bitters 
 

Instructions:  

Simple Syrup 
Add sugar and water to a small saucepan and cook over medium heat, stirring often, until sugar is dissolved. Let cool. Pour into a glass jar and seal tightly with a lid. Keep refrigerated for up to a month. 
 
Drink 
Add bourbon, lemon juice, simple syrup to a shaker full of ice and shake for 30 seconds until well chilled. Strain into a glass filled with ice and serve.
