Flowers are always popular for mom, and while fresh blooms are fabulous, their beauty fades after just a few short days. This year, give her lasting flowers instead. Bright and beautiful, these posh paper alternatives create a stunning bouquet for Mother’s Day and beyond.
Step 1: Pick the color you want your flower petals and the center of the flower to be. For flower petals, stack 8 sheets of tissue paper and cut into 7"x 7" squares. For flower center, stack 4 sheets of tissue paper and cut into 4"x 7" squares. Select a contrasting color to create visual interest. Center the small sheets on top of the larger sheets.
Step 2: Fold the stack like an accordion to be 1” wide. Be sure your folds are crisp and even.
Step 3: Separate the colors and refold collapsing the smaller stack. Then fold small stack in half.
Step 4: Trim the ends of the small folded stack to create pointed, curved or fringed strips.
Step 5: Carefully restack both colors of tissue with the smaller stack on top as shown.
Step 6: Collapse the stack and position floral wire around the center of the tissue paper twisting to secure. The wire will become the stem for your flower. Trim wire to desired length. Repeat steps 1 through 6 as many times as desired to create multiple flowers to create a bouquet.
Step 7: Trim both ends of the folded tissue paper to be rounded, pointed or fringed.
Step 8: Carefully pull each piece of tissue toward the center to fluff the flower. Readjust the petals as needed. For added flair, create leaves as a finishing touch.
Step 9: For flower leaves, cut green tissue paper into 2"x 5" strips.
Step 10: Using a golf-sized ball, wrap the tissue around the ball and tightly twist each end. Keeping the ball in place helps to create the shape of the leaf.
Step 11: Wrap floral wire around one of the twisted ends until secure. Remove the ball.
Step 12: Trim the twisted end opposite the floral wire to create the top of the leaf.
Step 13: Arrange paper flowers and leaves into a bouquet as desired. We used floral foam in the bottom of our daffodil-hued Plank Ruffle Vase to anchor the stems.
Happy Mother's day... and every day!!
