Give Colorfully Day: Tallahassee Memorial Hospital

DSC_8550_V2-large.jpg

This year, Coton Colors is on a mission to help children heal through the power of art. We “art” giving colorfully! For our first of three Give Colorfully Days, we were both thrilled and humbled to host a “Color Me Happy” workshop for the children at Tallahassee Memorial Hospital (TMH) Children’s Center.

Committed to healing with specialized care, TMH serves over 4,000 children in and around our community annually. In partnership with Florida State University, TMH offers art therapy to pediatric patients of the Children’s Center. More than just a way to forget their illness and worries for a while, art serves as an expressive medium to help the children communicate, overcome stress and express their personality while staying in the hospital. It’s also ideal for children of all ages and abilities.

Each child received one-on-one instruction with a Coton Colors team member creating and crafting a watercolor Valentine and selecting art pages to Color them Happy. Every child left with a smile on their face and a gift box with a "Color Me Happy" Coloring Book, a Happy Everything Mini Platter, crayons and an "Art with Heart" Mini Gallery Attachment. Coton Colors team members and their families donated over 500 art supplies to the TMH Children's Center.

Our staff had such a great time working with the kids and their healthcare providers. We enjoyed helping them to create, imagine and hoepfully, heal. Find our more here about how you can get attached to our cause and give colorfully.

A side note... Talk about "art-felt":
TMH tries to make every child that comes through its doors feel cared for as an individual. So we just had to tell you abut a special project the Children's Center does for every child who stays there. TMH encourages all its pediatric patients to paint their own ceiling tiles. A unique representation of themselves and their experience, each tile is then added to the mosaic ceiling in the Children’s Center. We just "art" this!
