We here at Coton Colors are very familiar with the Chinese New Year celebration. Since we work with several partners in China, we know that they are TOTALLY unavailable for FIFTEEN days during the New Year holiday.
February 3, 2011 is the first day of year 4709 on the Chinese lunar calendar and marks the beginning of the year of the Rabbit. For the Chinese, this holiday is one of the most elaborate, colorful and important holidays of the year! The party starts with the first New Moon of the new year and ends on the full moon 15 days later. The 15th day of the new year is called the Lantern Festival, which is celebrated at night with lantern displays and children carrying lanterns in a parade. It truly is a beautiful site to see!
Here are a few ideas for hosting your own party this year...
Invite your guests with handmade invitations cut in the shape of the animal that represents the current year on the Chinese calendar. The rabbit this year of course!
Decorate your home with traditional Chinese decorations. Use red and gold to symbolize wealth and good luck, and choose flowers such as peach blossoms for good luck, chrysanthemum for longevity and narcissus for new beginnings.
Prepare a Chinese meal. Make it potluck or order Chinese take-out. Serve your guests lucky foods such as dumplings, fish and noodles. Don't forget the fortune cookies!
We love this idea from My Own Ideas to make your own fortune cookies and put handwritten fortunes inside! Click here for instructions...
Be sure to get creative with the fortunes you write, I am already working on mine...
Flattery will go far tonight.
Ideas are like children; there are none so wonderful as your own.
Your everlasting patience will be rewarded sooner or later.
It’s about time I got out of that cookie.
That wasn’t chicken.
Haha, that last one is my favorite!! Do you have any suggestions?!? Leave them in the comments so we can all get a good laugh!
Sooo with it being the year of the rabbit (and you've heard about my tendency to give rabbits as gifts) I was thinking maybe as a party favor... nah, not this time!!
